First identify an area that can remain clear
Observe the room during a normal day. The least intrusive location is often more relevant than a large space only available at certain times.
Making play, passage, and storage coexist
Place the long side of the mat in the same axis as the sofa, bed, or a shelf. This orientation limits the impression of an obstacle and makes the room more legible. Avoid diagonals in a small volume, edges under a door, and locations that block the opening of a chest or drawer. A light basket placed nearby is sufficient for the most frequently used items.

It is essential to consider the space where the rug will be placed.

- Aim for at least the front two legs of the sofa on the carpet. Leave 20–30 cm of air space from the walls.
